Alejandro Velasquez Cadavid is a litigation attorney and advisor with extensive experience in commercial and civil litigation, specialized in contractual and non-contractual liability, contract and insurance law.

He has acted on behalf of important Colombian companies in complex litigation proceedings in the areas of construction, transportation, banking & finance, energy, infrastructure and insurance, both in civil and administrative courts and in arbitral tribunals.

Background and experience

He graduated from Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana (Law, 2008, first in his promotion), and he is a specialist in civil liability and insurance from the same university (2010).

He studied private law in France and obtained the title Diplôme Supérieur d’Université (DSU) en Droit civil, mention "très bien" (honourable mention), from Université Panthéon Assas-Paris 2 (Paris, France, 2017).

Arbitrator (list B) in commercial, insurance and reinsurance matters, in the Arbitration Center of The Chamber of Commerce of Medellin. Secretary of arbitrations in the same arbitration center.

Lecturer in Tort Law and Obligations at the undergraduate level in the School of Law at Universidad EAFIT. He also teaches in the specialization and master's program in Tort Law, in the specialization in Contract Law, and teaches Domestic Arbitration in the specialization in Corporate Law, all at that same university. He is additionally a professor in the specialization in Tort Law at Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana in Medellín.

He is a member of the Henri Capitant Association of Friends of French Legal Culture (France), participating in the Colombian working group, a member and speaker of the Colombian Arbitration Committee (CCA), and representative of the Medellín chapter in the Young Practitioners Group of the Inter-American Commercial Arbitration Commission (CIAC).
